Technological innovation meets environmental responsibility.
We’re always finding inventive ways in which we can add value. On a project we’re currently working on in Brazil, for instance, we introduced the first hybrid electric vessel because the scale of the undertaking would have allowed it to make the most impact, reducing emissions by an impressive 25 precent.
On another job (2023), where our client faced ageing assets and escalating costs of doing business, we suggested an innovative solution for a maintenance project that became a global game-changer. We helped save the company considertransportation spend and, as a result, reduced fuel emissions significantly.
From classroom to command: training future mariners.
Over the 2023 July/August vacation, Delta Logistics pioneered a specialized three-month maritime internship for Electro Technical Officers (ETOs). Participants were non-maritime graduates who hold Bachelor of Science degrees in Electric and Computer Engineering from the University of the West Indies (UWI).
All students successfully completed the internship, and we offered two outstanding performers the opportunity to be part of our two-year traineeship graduate program.
Seeing the potential for further development of young minds, we also recommended certain courses that UWI should consider adding to its syllabus for better alignment with ETO job requirements. In this way, the expansion of our local maritime capability will be secure.
Planting for the Future
As part of our ongoing efforts to reduce carbon emissions and support community employment, we’re excited about a new initiative to reforest and rehabilitate degraded lands once used by National Quarries. Delta Logistics has engaged experts at Vetiver TT Ecological Engineering Solutions Limited to lead the work, which began in the third quarter of 2023.
Our staff has been very hands-on, planting an array of fruit and hardwood trees — balata, mamey apple, sapodilla, mahogany, mora, and poui — alongside members of the communities where the reforestation is taking place. We estimate that the establishment phase of the project should take about three years, during which time maintenance will be critical — watering the saplings, replacing dead trees if necessary, maintaining overgrowth, and administering nutrients.
As a gesture of gratitude to our clients, we’ve pledged to plant one tree for every day that our vessels have been contracted, and the areas they occupy will be named after each member of our fleet.
